Curriculum

PRIMARY CURRICULUM
A smooth transition takes place between Foundation and Grade One. The curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science as core subjects in addition to the foundation of subjects such as Geography, History, IT,Design Technology, PSHE and Art. Subject specialists deliver Computing, French, Music and Physical Education programmes. Links across the curriculum are made wherever possible and all activities are planned and delivered to maximise first-hand experience and respond to differing learning styles. Role play continues to be used as a way of developing expressive language skills; role play areas change regularly in classrooms and central areas. PowerPoint presentations, debate and public speaking form an integral part of the curriculum.

Wherever possible children are taken out of school for activities that support and enrich the curriculum.Science experiments also are an essential part of our curriculum for conceptual learning. Similarly, visitors with special skills and experience are invited into class to further enrich the curriculum.

MTLS has blended British National Curriculum for KS1 and KS2 years with Edexcel Primary and Lower Secondary Programmes. Please refer to Edexcel sections for further details about curriculum specifications, implementation and assessments.

EDEXCEL IGCSE YEARS
Our teaching broadly encompasses teaching of IGCSE since Grade 6, where we see aptitude of our students and start introducing specialized subjects areas including Science subjects Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Management subjects like Business Studies, Economics, Accounting. In a couple of years, after collaborating with our teachers, subject specialists, parents and students, we decide which subject areas suit our students best to divide them for relevant groups of study.

LEARNING AND TEACHING
At MTLS, we firmly believe in the concept of lifelong learning, enabling each child to achieve his/her potential. Learning should be a rewarding fulfilling and enjoyable experience equipping the pupils with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to make informed choices about important things in their lives. We conduct all our learning and teaching in an atmosphere of trust and respect for all, responding professionally and sensitively to the needs of all our pupils.

ASSESSMENTS
Assessment is an ongoing process and a feature of daily school life. It involves both pupils and teachers, it informs future planning through target setting and allows for the celebration of effort and achievement.

Standardised assessment is a feature of practice and the National Curriculum Standard Assessment tests are used in Y2 and Y6 in UK, however, at MTLS, we would like to assess our students every year in order to set targets of learning for next stages and to check their aptitude to take assessments. This also in turn makes a way to celebrate their successes, which offers a huge encouragement and boost confidence of our young learners.

The Foundation years and GRADE 1-2 assessments are internal school exams, however, from Grade 3, we introduce Edexcel Progression and Achievement Tests to our students in English, Maths and Science to test our students on international standards.

As Edexcel gives tools to measure all international students, it has been a pleasure seeing our kids performing better than most international students world wide and achieving High Achievers Awards every year.
